2018-19 DVMS Yearbook

The 2018-19 DVMS Yearbook is available for pre-purchase — a beautiful 80-page hardcover book. Click here to pre-order now for $45 online. LAST DAY TO ORDER WILL BE MONDAY JUNE 3 in order to receive your yearbook by the end of the school year.

Not only will you receive a handsome keepsake, but you’ll also have access to the Digital Addition which features extended photos, videos, and music that you can play back on the computing device of your choice.

Ordering only takes a minute, and the books will arrive during the last week of school for signing — IF YOU ORDER BY JUNE 3.

Campout/Sleepover Information

Casa Graduation Party:

Children graduating from the Casa program will be spending the evening at DVMS on Friday, June 7 in the gym.  Pick up is at 8:30PM.  Please look for an inviation coming home.

Lower Camp Out Information:

Two pieces of paper came home with your Lower Elementary child last week — a packing list and an information form (please return the form asap if you haven’t already done so).

  • Students will depart for Camp Nokomis from DVMS on Tuesday, June 18th   by school bus, at 9:00 a.m. (please arrive at DVMS no later than 8:30).

  • They will return to DVMS in time for regular dismissal on Wednesday, June 19th. We’ll let you know if they will be arriving at DVMS earlier than 3:45 — they’re usually ready for a bath and an early night.

Food:

  • In addition to the packing list emailed to you last week, students will NOT require a bagged lunch for the first day.  All other meals/snacks will be provided at camp.

  • Camp Nokomis makes provisions for vegetarian diets.  If your child has other food concerns that have not yet been addressed, please send us a note with your concerns.

  • Please do not send any additional food, snacks, or treats as it is strictly prohibited in the cabins because it attracts unwelcome visitors.

Medications:

  • If your child requires an Epi-pen, please be prepared for them to wear it on their person at all times while at camp.

  • If your child will require medication while away, please contact the office to fill out a medication form prior to departure day.

Other things to bring, or not:

  • Please keep an eye on the weather. If it looks like it is going to rain, children are asked to bring a board game (not battery operated) to play with friends.

  • No treats, money, food, electronic devices, or toys please!

Upper Camp Out Information:

Our annual trip to camp is coming up soon and we have a few notes for parents to help in preparation for the trip.

  • Depart by bus from DVMS on Monday, June 17th at 9:00am.

  • Return to DVMS by bus, ready for pickup on Wednesday June 19th.

  • We’ll have specific times for you next week.

Food:

Information and Reminders

Movin’ on Up:

Starting Monday, June 3, children moving up to a new Montessori level at DVMS next year will begin visiting classrooms at their new level during the morning work cycle. The classrooms they visit are not necessarily the classrooms they will be placed in next year (placements will be completed over the summer).

Year 6 Upper Elementary Families: Your children had the opportunity to visit Strata a while back.  While the students are moving up, the year sixes will be meeting with Colin and Justin to prepare for the Upper Elementary Camping trip.

DVMS Apparel Orders:

Online ordering of DVMS apparel will be open on Monday, June 3. We will send the link out once the store is open, and items you purchase will be shipped to your home. (This is a good time to get new t-shirts if kids have outgrown them; they’ll need them for field trips and sporting events, etc. next year).

Summer Casa Camp:

Registration for DVMS Casa Summer Camp is now available.

DVMS Summer Camp

DVMS Casa Summer Camp is held on the grounds of Dundas Valley Montessori School. Staffed by DVMS Montessori trained staff and using our beautiful playground, gym, and multi-purpose room, each week will follow a theme with games, crafts, activities, and community outings. On Fridays we will have a barbecue lunch to end a week of fun and adventure. Our Summer Camp welcomes DVMS students and other children ages 4-6 (or have completed their first year of Casa as DVMS), meeting their developmental needs in a safe, nurturing environment.

Art Camp with Tara Smith:

Tara Smith will be hosting Art Camp at DVMS this summer.   Tara will have a special DVMS family rate for these camps.

During Art Camp we will teach and facilitate the creation of multi media art and collage. Each student will be taught various collaging techniques as well as the use of incorporating multi media elements (drawing, collaging, painting, spray painting) within their artworks.  At the end of the session, students will leave with an 11×14 artwork to take with them.

Studio on James is one of James st Norths’ best kept secrets.  Located in the heart of downtown Hamilton, Studio on James is home to Tara Smith. The space provides an oasis for learning, creating, developing, socializing, and relaxing.Creativity is cultivated in this studio where Tara runs multi media and photographic workshops and classes for children, teens and adults alike.  Each session completes with a festive exhibit showcasing the work of the students and their accomplishments. Studio On James is fortunate enough to have other talented artists teaching a variety of unique and fun classes and workshops. There is always something happening at the studio, with a variety of special events such as, open studios, one day workshops, and rotating art exhibits.

3rd Annual DVMS/Strata Canoe, Kayak and Mountain Bike Camps for Summer 2019

This summer, Justin Metz (Strata guide) and Colin Fox (PE teacher at DVMS) are offering 3 unique outdoor recreation opportunities for DVMS Upper Elementary Students, Strata Montessori Students, and parents:  Canoeing in Algonquin, kayaking in the Minks and McCoy Islands of Georgian Bay, and a Mountain Bike Camp in Dundas Valley.  To participate in any these trips, no previous camping, nor paddling experience is necessary, although all participants would benefit from being physically fit with a positive attitude.  For more information on these, and other outdoor recreation trips visit Silver Fox Expeditionsand complete the Sign-Up form.

Strata Fundraiser:

Dundas Valley Montessori is thrilled to announce our 7th annual Strata Montessori Adolescent School’s 2019 Benefit concert, featuring the one and only Dwayne Gretzky! Along with the night’s great entertainment of this 8+ piece cover band who is sure to please any music lover’s taste, is a live auction with items displayed around the school will add that extra amount of flare and excitement to make this event that much more special, memorable and important.

Any family who donates (or has donated) to Strata this year (all donations are tax-deductible) receives a free pair of tickets to the concert as a small token of our gratitude for your support.  Starting Monday we will have a desk out front where you can reserve tickets and or make donations.

End of Year Picnic!

Our end of year extravaganza is coming up quickly! Our last day of school is Thursday June 20 and on Friday June 21 we will host our annual family end of year bash.  We are doing things a bit differently this year.  We will still have your favourites, face painting, popcorn, snow cones, water play, bouncy castle…but we are going to forgo the BBQ and have everyone pack a picnic lunch.  As we keep growing, so do the line ups for food.  We hope that this will a better solution and keep everyone’s bellies happy.We will also be hosting a Book Swap/Sale on the day of the picnic. Please bring in all of your used children and adult books that you would like to donate to school now so that we can arrange them on the day of the picnic.  Books will be free with the choice of leaving a donation in the jar for next year’s MMUN trip.

Our 16th Annual Open House for the horses is fast approaching! It is Saturday, June 2, and Sunday, June 3, from 9:00-4:00.
Come and meet the horses and see what we are about. We will have a raffle, BBQ, Farrier Demonstration, Free Face Painting, Free Hair Chalking, Lots of fun activities for the children. Come and meet friends of the horses, Loki and Forsetti, the rescue goats. Hope to see you!
