PD Day October 11

Friday October 11th is a PD day for staff at DVMS and Strata. While we are PDing, please enjoy your extra long Thanksgiving weekend!

Elementary Activities

Upper Elementary

  • October 4th: Upper Elementary Students will be participating in a bike tour to Hamilton Harbour with their guides and Colin Fox. Students will need to have their bikes, helmets, lunch and proper biking clothing. They will be leaving DVMS in the morning and return for regular dismissal.

  • Starting October 18th Upper Elementary students will be participating in Parkour on Friday afternoons, led by Play Project. They will be participating on Oct. 18th, 25th and Thursday October 31. Please ensure they are wearing, or bring, weather appropriate outdoor clothing and footwear.

Lower Elementary

  • October 4th, 18th, 25th: Lower Elementary students will be walking to the newly completely Grightmire Arena for skating from 1-3pm and will require skates and a helmet. Students will have the opportunity to practice a variety of drills and skills.

Cross Country

Elementary Cross Country on Tuesday, October 8: Both Lower and Upper Elementary students who joined the cross country team will be travelling by school bus to MaryDale park in Hamilton (5999 Chippewa Road, Mount Hope) to take part in the CYO fall cross-country running event. Races will begin at 10:40 and end at 12:30. Students will be bused back to DVMS. The following is the schedule for race times, all parents are encouraged to come and cheer on their runner(s).

Year One- 10:40/10:50. 1110 meters

Year Two- 11:00/11:10. 1110 meters

Year Three- 11:20/11:30. 1530 meters

Year Four- 11:40/11:50. 1530 meters

Year Five and Six- 12:00-12:10. 1980 meters

Year Seven and Eight- 12:20/12:30. 2300 meters

Information and Reminders

  • Parent Dinner- “Thanksgiving Dinner with your Montessori Family”! Our annual Parent Dinner is coming up on Saturday October 5th. Tickets can be purchased here!

  • Parking Lot Reminders: Just a reminder to please turn right when exiting the parking lot during drop-off and pick-up times. Kemp Dr. loops around to Central Park so we can use it as a loop and avoid congestion. Also, now that the fall heat wave has passed, please remember that DVMS is a no-idling zone; please turn vehicles off when waiting in the parking lot. Thanks everyone.

  • Casa Parent Education: A Day in the Life of your Casa Student: Join us on October 17th at 5:30-7:00 to learn about your child’s day. A letter will be sent home this week with an RSVP. Your Casa child is welcome to join us for pizza and a movie during the time you are engaged and all money raised will go towards this years delegation to Montessori United Nations in New York City.

  • Strata Montessori Friday Café: Every Friday morning, the fine folks at Strata Montessori Adolescent School host a wonderful café as part of their student micro-economy ventures. It is a lovely time in a beautiful place with great people.

Fun Family Events

  • 6th Annual Hamilton Walk for Down Syndrome: Sunday, September 29th , 8:30 – 12:00, Bayfront Park, 200 Harbour Front Drive, Hamilton. This event is near and dear to us as one of your fellow Montessori Moms is the chair of the Down Syndrome Association of Hamilton and her son Owen is a student at DVMS. We encourage you to participate in the walk. Click here to support team Owen!
