Events and Info: April 18 - 22 at Dundas Valley Montessori School

Play Prep1Our good friends at Strata Montessori Adolescent School are working hard putting the finishing touches on their presentation of "What You Will" -- a steampunk version of Shakepeare's "Twelfth Night." Tickets are available now for two performances at DVMS on Thursday, May 5, at 10:00 a.m. and at 7:00 p.m. Strata students will be selling tickets during Strata Cafe on Friday mornings at both Strata and DVMS (where they are now holding a pared-down "outlet" cafe each Friday for those who can't make it to the beautiful Strata location). Tickets are $5.00 in advance, $8.00 at the door, or $20 for V.I.P., which includes front row seating and backstage access. You can also reserve tickets by emailing"We are pouring hearts and souls into this work, so we hope you will join us."

 Casa Workshop:

The next event in the series of Casa Workshops for DVMS parents will be on Thursday, April 28, at 3:30. Every last Thursday of the month (excluding December and June), from 3:30 - 4:00 pm, please come to your child’s Casa classroom for a brief but informative 30 minutes of parent education. We will discuss areas of the classroom and topics of interest related to Montessori at home. Siblings aged 2 ½ yrs+ may be dropped off in the playground to play for the half hour.

Elementary Activities:

Lower Elementary Karate: Throughout April, DVMS Lower Elementary students will be taking part in karate, at DVMS, with Gord Waddell of United Family Martial Arts. They will have karate on either Monday or Friday in mixed groups made up of children from both Lower North and South. They have been told, and will be reminded about, which group they are in. Please help by prompting your child to remember to wear or bring comfortable clothing that they can move in on karate days. Thank you.Upper Elementary Track and Field: On Fridays in April, from 1:00-3:00, DVMS Upper Elementary students will be spending their afternoons at McMaster working with the coaches and student athletes of the McMaster track team. They will need appropriate clothing and footwear (and a water bottle), and will be taking advantage of McMaster’s indoor and outdoor facilities. Students will be bused to McMaster, but we ask that parents pick up at McMaster before 3:30. Please make your way to the main entrance of theDavid Braley Athletic Centre. (Enter McMaster at the Sterling St. entrance). As always, if you are not able to pick up at McMaster, please let us know and we will arrange to carpool your child back to DVMS for 3:45 dismissal. Thank you.

But wait, there's more:

  • DVMS's Upper Elementary environments will be hosting an observer from Westside Montessori, in Toronto, for the week. Joan (pronounced Juan) Cornudella will be completing his AMI Montessori elementary training in Portland this summer.
  • Nobody claimed the keys that were found on the playground last week (let us know if you've lost some recently). WP_20160414_001

How about this fabulous Toronto Maple Leafs ring that was found in the parking lot this week? It being a Maple Leafs ring, we realize there is a good chance it wasn't lost but was thrown to the ground in disgust and disappointment, but thought we'd check anyway. Both keys and ring are in the office.

  • Earth Day is Friday, April 22, and the weather is finally supposed to be nice. Many of our classes get outside for Earth Day, exploring area trails and/or helping to clean up the school and neighbourhood environments. As such, we recommend they don't wear their Friday best this week.
Thank you for reading all the way to the end. Here's your reward -- your amazing kids in Montessori action:
